A Few Life Lessons

This is probably going to be my shortest blog post yet, but it'll be rich in content. Since high school I have kept a list of the lessons that I have learned that I thought were important to keep in mind while pursuing an honest life. An authentic and genuine life. Though my brain is kind of just a conglomeration of all sorts of different quotes to live by, I have found that these rules have really guided me and seem to have a recurring truth to them. These aren't listed in any order, and the order is not related to their importance. Here they are:

1. Don't burn bridges.

2. Show up on time.

3. Follow through with your plans.

4. Stay true to your word.

5. No matter what, do not lie.

6. You, yourself, must earn respect, but you should always give it to others.

7. Have somewhat of a plan.

8. Think, then do. Or don't do.

9. Be careful what you wish for: You usually get what you want, just never how you thought you'd get it.

10. Communication is key, use it well.

11. In an emotional or adrenaline inclined situation, take a day to think about it, then act or decide.

12. Never take your friends and your support system for granted.

13. Every job worth doing is a job worth doing right.

14. Hard work does not always pay off. Perfect, accurate, smart, goal-specific, and consistent work pays off.

15. Connect with old friends every here and there, you never know how much it could mean to them, or you.

16. Remember your "why," or the reason behind why you do what you do.

17. Others journey is not your journey. Don't compare yours to others.

Sometimes it can be easy to forget these little rules. They can be summed up into just a few core values, which I also think everyone should have (mine are integrity, commitment, and authenticity). I'm sure that as I go through life I will continue to add to this list and I'll learn even more lessons... because, well, that's just life. Ya learn lots. And one thing that I've learned about the internet, or just the world in general, is that you can be the nicest, most genuine, loving, caring, selfless, honest, best person in the world and literally no one but the people you spend most of your time with will know or care. The world is just a big place. But don't let that be a deterrent to be the best version of yourself. Always strive to be the best version of yourself. Do so in a selfless naive manner almost. Never expect anything from it. The universe owes you nothing. Just be the best you you can be because you have the ability to. Don't cheat anything, or anyone, or yourself! There, rule 18, don't cheat!
